and therefore could be described as a liquid version of the single ply EPDM membrane which has been established as an outstanding performance record of over 30 years. The EPDM chemistry has two unique features not possessed by any other rubber -it is unaffected by ultra-violet and ozone, and can tolerate continuous exposure at temperatures over 300 degrees F. The latter feature is also what gives EPDM rubbers the best aging properties [retain flexibility longer] of all the elastomers.

Liquid Roof is the only EPDM product currently in the market. It is priced higher than the Acrylics but this one disadvantage is more than outweighed by Liquid Roof's performance advantages and nearly total absence of conditions, which can result in disastrous failures. Many roofs will pond water. The gulf states all experience sudden afternoon showers. The northern states experience rapid temperature drops late in the day during Spring and Fall. These kinds of situations might only result in minor cosmetic surface distortions to the Liquid Roof® while the acrylic coating-based products could be partially or totally destroyed.

Roof Coatings And Liquid Rubber Designed For Roof Leaks

EPDM rubber (ethylene propylene diene M-class rubber), a type of synthetic rubber, is an elastomer which is characterized by wide range of applications. The E refers to Ethylene, P to Propylene, D to diene and M refers to its classification in ASTM standard D-1418. The “M” class includes rubbers having a saturated chain of the polymethylene type. EPDM exhibits satisfactory compatibility with fireproof hydraulic fluids, ketones, hot and cold water, and alkalis, and unsatisfactory compatibility with most oils, gasoline, kerosene, aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, halogenated solvents, and concentrated acids.

Liquid Roof Provides amazing results to those who used it, and they are highly satisfied, you can read our testimonials. Liquid EPDM coatings are just as effective roofing material as the sheet form coatings commonly used in the roofing industry. In many cases, they are better. They combine all the benefits of EPDM rubber roofing with the flexibility of using a liquid.

EPDM rubber is used in vibrators and seals; glass-run channel; radiator, garden and appliance hose; tubing; washers; belts; electrical insulation, and speaker cone surrounds. It is also used as a medium for water resistance in high-voltage polymeric cable jointing installations, roofing membrane, geomembranes, rubber mechanical goods, plastic impact modification, thermoplastic, vulcanizates, as a motor oil additive, pond liner, electrical cable-jointing, RV roofs, and chainmail applications.

Give your RV Roof a new life with EPDM Rubber

Liquid roof coatings are aftermarket products designed to extend life, seal leaks, or merely provide a heat reflective or aesthetic function over existing roof surfaces. There are many products on the market ranging from asphalt based products, rubber solution [Hypalon, Neoprene, and Silicone], water based Acrylic and other emulsions, and chemically curing systems such as urethanes and now Liquid Roof®. Choosing the right product requires some knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of each.

The most widely used coatings for RV Roof Leaks Repair are Acrylic elastomeric products. These are easy to use, have good weather ability and cure quickly in warm weather. The weakness of these products, however, comes from the fact that they are water-based emulsions which make them vulnerable to sudden showers or freezing temperatures soon after application, and they have inherently poor resistance to ponding water. Another drawback for the Acrylic products is that they do not work over single ply EPDM membranes.

Liquid Roof is a true EPDM rubber and therefore could be described as a liquid version of the single ply EPDM membrane which has been established as an outstanding performance record of over 30 years.

Metal Roofs and Cleaning Guide

Style and strength: We all want it and we can all have it when it comes to our roofs. Metal roofs are the newest fad in roofing, in part due to their longevity and durability, but also because of the unique and stylish appearance that you can only get from the use of metal as a material for roofing. The striking appearance of metal roofs is probably the major reason why they are becoming so popular. With a choice of multiple different styles, textures and colours available, you’ll be able to enhance the style of your house and help make it withstand the elements better than ever. Metal roofs offer maximum resistance when it comes to withstanding ice storms, fires, hurricane winds and even earthquakes.

While a regular asphalt or old fashioned tile or slate roofing can need repairing or re-installing every 10-15 years, a metal roof, if properly take care of, can last for up to 50 years or even more. Metal roofs are able to withstand just about anything that Mother Nature can throw at them. Compared to other kinds of roofs, there really is no contest when it comes to strength and durability. Most metal roofs come with warranties for up to 30 years, and if you decide to recoat it then perhaps you’ll never need to repair it in your lifetime.

However, if your RV ever does spring leaks, for any reason, then the best leak an RV can develop is the one you see because it results in a drip inside the RV. It is the one you do not see that will ruin your beautiful dream machine! Leaks and tears in an RV can quickly lead to more expensive roof leaks repair. Such leaks can allow moisture to access the inner structure of the vehicle. RV leaks repair and rv roof maintenance is now very easy with epdm rubber and liquid roof coating.

More Details on Liquid Rubber, Liquid Roof, Liquid EPDM and Roof Repair Instruction you can visit our Liquid roof site http://www.liquidroof.net/

Repairing a Built Up Roof

A small roof repair job for a damaged section of a built up roof is easy enough to carry out. The basic idea is that you cut out the damaged section and then replace it with a new piece of asphalt. To carry out the procedure correctly, the following steps should be observed:

• First, sweep away all the dirt and gravel from the damaged part of the roof.
• Use a box cutter knife or a utility knife to cut out the damaged section. Use a straight edge and make sure the damaged section is cut away cleanly, so that you are left over with a square hole in the roof. Make sure that you cut away all the damaged layers, right through to the bare wood if necessary.
• Now, using the roofing roll or asphalt shingle roll, cut a new piece that is just slightly larger than the damaged section that you cut away.
• Spread some plastic roof cement into the area that you just cut out the damaged asphalt from, and make sure it spreads out and over the edges. Place the new patch of asphalt into the gap and use roofing nails to nail it in place.
• Cut another patch of asphalt from the roll, this one a little bigger than the first patch you cut out. You are looking for an overlap of about 2 inches.
• Spread more roof cement on the first patch you have already laid, again spreading it out past the edges.
• Lay the second asphalt patch onto the first one, making sure it overlaps on every edge. Again, use the roofing nails to secure it.
• As the cement starts to set, brush the loose gravel back over the new patch.
• To be extra sure the new patch is water tight, apply some liquid roof coatings around the edges of it.

Your built up roof should now be fully waterproof again and ready to serve you once more. However, if problems or roof leaks persist then it is definitely recommended that you get a professional roofer in to have a look.

Commercial and Industrial Applications of EPDM Rubber

We specialize in the maintenance and repair of existing commercial flat roofs or commercial metal roofs. Liquid roof is the solution to all the problems in other form of roofs. It don’t leaks as it is water resistant, it is not affected by weather conditions humidity, rain or extreme hot weather. If you have a liquid roof coatings on your normal roof. It is also a very effective solution. If in case, some damage occurs to the liquid roof then it’s easy to repair as it’s economical to repair as compare to others forms of roof.

The main properties of EPDM are its outstanding heat, ozone and weather resistance. The resistance to polar substances and steam are also good. It has excellent electrical properties. It has the ability to retain light colour. Hurricane damage to all types of roofs is often quite extensive and an unusual thing you may face. As a result, building codes and wind design guidelines are changing. New solutions to wind uplift problems are being introduced that allow building owners and specifiers to design and build highly durable, standard-compliant and, most importantly, cost-effective roofs, regardless of building location. Roof is as the most important investment of your building, so roofing problems need to be solved within no time delays.

Metal Roof Maintenance and Cleaning

The first and most important step for metal roof maintenance is to keep it clean. Cleaning will help to reduce the build up of algae, mildew and mold, and will go a long way towards ensuring that the roof remains in the best possible condition.

Step by Step Roof Cleaning:

• First of all you need to assess the roof’s condition. An older roof that is worn and damaged will need to be cleaned much more thoroughly and more carefully than a newer roof.
• Make sure that it is safe to work on your roof. Ascertain beforehand that you can reach all the places on the roof where it will be necessary to go. If you feel it is required, wear a harness or some kind of safety rope
• Use a wire brush to scratch away any corrosion, rust or excess paintwork before you start cleaning. For harder objects, you can use a putty knife, but be careful not to scratch the paintwork where there is no excess paint as this could damage the roof sheets.
• Use a TriSodium Phosphate solution (TSP) and mix it with water, approximately half a cup to one gallon of solution. Bring the solution up to the roof in a large size bucket and apply it to any dirty areas, especially where there is mildew or mold. Then you neeed to take a soft brush and scrub the area until it’s clean. If the roof is especially dirty it might be a good idea to scrub the whole roof down. After scrubbing the roof, rinse the washed areas with buckets of water, making sure that no TSP residue is left over. Once the roof is dry, you can evaluate its condition again.
• The final step may or may not be required, usually depending on how old and dirty the roof is. If you think it is necessary, use a power washer on the roof. This is the best possible way to clean off the hard to remove, ground in dirt. Begin at the top (ridge) of the roof and work downwards, as this allows for the debris and grime to be washed away as you clean. Try to keep the nozzle of your power washer at the same distance from the roof as you gradually work your way down spraying it. If necessary, add a little detergent to the water, but not too much because you’ll want to avoid suds which can leave a sticky film on the roof.
Finally, rinse the roof down again and allow it to dry. The last step after cleaning is to re-apply a coating of protective metal roof paint.

For further details and product information visit out site at www.epdmcoatings.com or call us at: 1-610-298-1989

Remarkable results with Liquid Roof

Liquid roof coatings are aftermarket products designed to extend roof life. Liquid Roof seals roof leaks, or merely provide a heat reflective or aesthetic roof coatings function over existing roof surfaces. When looking for a long-term roof solution you need to compare “Apples to Apples”. Liquid EPDM is a one coat application. There are no primers needed and when you begin adding up the cost of other systems requiring primers and multiple coats you are in many cases exceeding the cost of Liquid EPDM and have a less superior sealant on your roof. Why add the unnecessary weight to a roof with multiple-coat systems? Cut your time and/or labor costs in half with a one coat system.

Liquid Roof Provides amazing results to those who used it, and they are highly satisfied, you can read our testimonials. Now how can you repair leaks? For holes that are bigger than one inch in diameter, it is usually best to use a piece of aluminum sheeting to cover it with. To do this, you need to cut out a piece of the sheeting that is larger than the hole in the roof. Make sure you have plenty of bearing so that you can cover the hole completely. Secure the aluminum sheet to the roof, over the hole, with self taping screws that can be driven straight into the roof. Then, to seal the sheet so it’s watertight, use a putty tape around the edges or some kind of non-hardening putty, making sure there are no gaps left at the edges of the sheet at all.

Smaller sized holes can be fixed more easily, using a sticky aluminum tape, for example Peel N Seal repairing tape. Simply clear all debris away from the hole, clean the surface where you are going to stick the tape, and finally seal the hole, making sure the tape is stuck down very firmly and there are no gaps visible.

If you do not carry out regular maintenance on your mobile home roof, you are running a huge risk. If left too late, then repairing the roof of your mobile home or RV trailer Repair can cost upwards of several thousand dollars and all because you failed to spot a small leak in time.
Preventative maintenance can save you an awful lot of money in the long run, it’s easy to perform, and very inexpensive. You don’t even need to have any real skills to do it. Mobile homes need care and attention just as much as our real homes do. If you love your mobile home and take care of it, then your mobile home will take good care of you.

Why Consider a Polyurethane Foam Roof Coating Application?

A polyurethane foam roof coating can extend the life of your roof by 10 years or more.Sprayed Polyurethane Foam deteriorates quickly when exposed to the sun's UV-rays. Winter season always leads to roof leaks and the solution for it is to repair or replace roof. There are a number of factors that may lead to roof leaks so there is not a simple answer. One of the most common causes of leaking roofs in winter is clogged or improperly installed gutters. This will cause water to overflow over the back and leak along the inside walls and inside the home. In addition, flue pipes inside of a chimney may cause water to leak if they are not properly aligned. Improperly installed or defective siding and windows are among other common causes for roof leaks. When a roof leaks after heavy, wind-driven rain, it is usually caused by a problem with the windows or siding. During the winter, a roof leak along the inside walls or basement is most commonly caused by an ice dam.

EPDM Coatings have Liquid Roof and Liquid Rubber which are the most suitable products for stop the leaking roofs. Metal Roofing magazine has awarded EPDM, top 10 products of 2009.

For further details and product information visit out site at www.epdmcoatings.com or call us at: 1-610-298-1989

Physical Properties of Liquid Rubber

The physical properties of Liquid Rubber(R) are typical of its EPDM chemistry. That is why; it’s the need of time that the roofing contractors must also be familiar with the concept of roof coatings.

Roof coatings are a monolithic and fully adhered fluid applied over the roofs. If applied properly, it helps to extend the life of the roof, ultimately saving the cost of re roofing. It has many outstanding features which makes it an important component of roof construction and finishing. When applied over the roof, it acts as a top layer over the underlying roofing system. Its high elasticity allows it to expand and contract back to its original position. But being the top most layer asks for tolerating a lot of environmental effects like UV and infrared, temperature extremities like rain, hail and the physical damage caused due to these factors. Therefore the roof coatings are specially manufactured keeping in view all these factors so that maximal protection is delivered to the roof from these roof weakening causes.

Other Details of Roofing materials can be found at:
http://www.epdmcoatings.com
http://www.liquid-roof.com
http://www.buyliquidroof.com

Identifying a roof leakage

Work on days when rain is not expected, and in temperatures of 65 to 75 deg. F. for comfort. The curing process requires an ambient temperature of between 55 deg. F to 140 deg. F. As an estimate, you will need about 3 to 6 hrs to apply Liquid Rubber EPDM on a flat (horizontal) surface of 240 sq.ft.

To apply a roofing material you first need to inspect your roof:

Roof inspection: Stay Off the Roof - It is generally not a good idea to get up on your roof to inspect it. Why? Basically for two reasons. First, roofs are dangerous because they are high, steep and you could slip and fall. Metal roofs are especially slippery. Other roofs can be slick too - particularly when they are wet or are covered in leaves, snow or ice. Second, many roofing materials shouldn't be walked on because this can damage them. Even flat roofs can be damaged by patio furniture and foot traffic. To enjoy a rooftop deck you will need to have decking properly installed.
To inspect your roof you can either look at it through binoculars from the ground, or use a ladder for an up close look. From inside your attic you can also look for water stains that would indicate that your roof is leaking. Getting a professional opinion is a good idea as well. Roofing contractors from Renovation Experts can inspect your roof for you to properly diagnose its status. However, before you do that, here are some things that you can look for if you have asphalt or a wood shingled roof:
Most roof and siding leaks are hard to find because they originate away from where they show up. In order to find the source of a leak, follow a roofer's advice and "think like water." Water typically comes in through worn, broken, or missing shingles; where nails have worked loose; or through corroded or poorly sealed flashings around vents, skylights, chimneys, and along the intersections of roof planes. Once water passes the roofing, it flows along the sheathing, roof rafters, or topside of ceilings until it finds a place to drip down--inevitably onto your favorite piece of furniture.
Look for a roof leak during the day. Go into the attic with a bright, portable light; step only on secure framing members--never on the insulation or topside of the ceiling below--this won't support you! Start above the place where drips occurred and work your way back, up-roof. Look for wetness along the framing members. Or, if the weather has been dry for a while, look for water marks--stains or discolorations on the wood made by dampness. Then switch off the light and try to find a hole where daylight shows through the roof. (On a wood shingle roof, you'll see too many such places because the overlapped shingles shed water but let light show through.) If it's still raining, put a bucket under the leak (again, properly supported).

Application Instruction for Liquid Rubber

Liquid rubber is far superior to other forms of adhesives, and is able to fill in moderate sized pipe leakages as well as cracks. It can be bought in a clear liquid form as well as in a silicon-type version. If you are looking to purchase liquid-rubber for your home, you should look for the stuff that has "EPDM" on the label. This type of liquid rubber has extra adhesive power and will be better than most other types of liquid-rubber.

There are Following Step involve in Liquid Rubber Application:

Surface preparation

Coverage:

Mixing Directions:

Application:

Temperature and Cure Conditions:

Surface to be coated with Roof Coatings should be clean, dry and structurally sound. Fasten loose areas with adhesive (contact cement) or pop rivets. Oil or wax must be completely removed with solvent. Remove loose portions of existing coatings and brittle caulk with scraper and wire brush. Whatever still has good adhesion may remain to be recoated. Rusty or pitted metal should be wire brushed to remove loose oxide. Tightly adhering corrosion may be directly coated with EPDM Liquid Rubber®.

EPDM Liquid Rubber® will cover up to 46 square feet per gallon on a very smooth surface. Normal coverage is 40-42 square feet per gallon on an average substrate. The required 20 mil film thickness will be achieved when the above spreading rate is used. If you are uncertain how to calculate the amount of material you will need, please contact EPDM Coatings at (866-311-3736) M-F 9:00.am-5:30 EST.

The container is under filled to allow for the addition of the pre-measured catalyst that is included. A drill, and a mixer (shown below) will be needed to incorporate the catalyst. For a 1 gallon can a short mixer will suffice. For 4 or 5 gallon pails you MUST use a long shaft mixer.
The catalyst will be inside the box for 1 gallon and 1 gallon repair kits. The catalyst will be located under the lid in 4 and 5 gallon pails.

Mix rubber material in can/pail until uniform; center mixer shaft in pail or can and begin mixing until a vortex is formed. Slowly pour all of catalyst into vortex. Move mixer up and down and in a circular motion for 2-3 minutes until all portions of can/pail are uniformly mixed

EPDM Liquid Rubber® may be applied at any temperature that permits it being spread onto the surface. It will waterproof immediately upon application. The solvent will evaporate at a rate governed by temperature but will not be affected by relative humidity. Exposure to freezing temperatures before cure has taken place will not damage the film. The time necessary to reach cure should not be a concern as this process will occur automatically. Exposure to sunlight will accelerate the curing process. The final film properties of the cured membrane will be the same regardless of the time required to achieve cure. EPDM Liquid Rubber® will provide long term protection even under extreme exposure conditions.

Commercial and Industrial Applications of Liquid EPDM

Liquid EPDM is widely use for Commercial and Industrial Applications.

Steel Siding For Commercial Buildings.
Liquid EPDM rubber is an excellent recoat product for roll formed steel siding which is starting to corrode at the bends. The rubber can be applied as one coat system with no corrosion inhibitive primer needed. The useful life of metal roofs also benefits greatly when Liquid EPDM Roof is applied. Over 70% of all commercial roofing installations involve the re-roofing of an existing building rather than the installation of a roof on a new building. Liquid EPDM Rubber is also a very effective roof coating for steel repairing especially where it is exposed to salt environment.

Fabricated steel in marine environments.
Cranes , tanks and support structures at dock facilities experience accelerated corrosion rates due to salt water exposure. Liquid EPDM rubber coatings are not affected by salt and are ideal for this type of environment.

Steel storage tank.
Elevated or on ground steel storage tank can be effectively protected with a Liquid rubber coating. Surface condensation, cathodic protection nor thermal stresses between sun and shady areas present problems for the coating.

Marine Uses.
(Product -9911 Ship Shape) Liquid EPDM rubber coatings can be effectively used on ships, boats and barges. because of their inherent characteristics: i.e. Ultra Violet stability, salt resistance, excellent water resistance, low and high temperature tolerance and flexibility.9911 Ship Shape is designed specifically for marine use.

Concrete pipe and spill containments.
(Product-XP 847) Liquid EPDM rubber coatings are very effective for protecting concrete pipe against salt water corrosion. They can tolerate higher temperatures, exposure to strong sun, and have 2.5 times higher solids than liquid Neoprene coatings.

Corrosive environments.
Corrosive environments are created by many Commercial operations where acids are used. Similar conditions can also be produced organically in poultry and hog production operations which generate high volumes of manure. In a commercial environment protection is very necessary. Liquid EPDM coatings can protect the steel and other construction materials from rapid deterioration in these environments.

One component Thermoset EPDM Coatings
Non thermoplastic materials, regardless of shape can now be coated with Liquid EPDM rubber as a protection against corrosion or chemical attack. The coating can be applied by spray, dip or flowcoat methods and than cured in an oven at temperatures from 250-300 F (120-150 C). These single component products are custom formulated for a specific application, have good storage stability and are very easy to apply. Viscosity and solids content can be controlled and make it possible to apply thin as well as thick coatings of Liquid EPDM rubber.
Fish ponds
Liquid Rubber can be used for repairing fish ponds. It can be use for both commercial and residential purpose. The concrete must first be thoroughly cleaned and dried. If the concrete is porous it should first be primed with a primer. The EPDM rubber is harmless for fish.

Elastomeric Roof Sealants

Elastomeric roof coating is a 100% acrylic, highly elastomeric, titanium fortified roof coating formulated to provide a high solids rubber-like membrane. Some of the roof care tips are listed here to guide you. Roof care is very important to upkeep. Any time you have a problem with your roof, we know that it can be an inconvenience to you.
It is important to remember that traffic on your roof should be kept to a minimum as shingles are brittle, especially in extreme hot or cold temperatures. Instead of walking the roof, use a pair of binoculars to get a closer view of the roof surface.

The first thing that you need to do to make your roof last longer is to clean it periodically. Always remember that the dirt and dust that often accumulates on your copper roofing will accelerate the deterioration of your roof. By removing dirt and dust from your roof, you can prolong the life of your roof. According to experts, you can extend the lifespan of your copper roofing to as much as 30% to 40% if you periodically clean it.

Here are some general tips to make sure your roof is in good shape and warning signs to know when it is time to replace them:

1. Inspect your roof in the late fall and early spring (you may need binoculars). Look for loose shingles, or shakes, or, if you have tiles, look for missing or cracked pieces. On shingle roofs, look for curling, fraying and tears at the edges. Don't forget to check the flashings around chimneys, vents, skylights, and other roof penetrations. They should be tight and in good condition. Also check the condition of the fascia boards near the joints of all eaves metal for signs of leakage or rot. If you see any of these signs of wear, call a professional contractor for a more thorough inspection.
2. Keep gutters and downspouts clean and free of leaves, sticks and other debris.
3. Keep trees trimmed away from building.
4. Stay off the roof! Walking on its surface can do a great deal of damage. And, you could falll! If you must see the roof for yourself, use a firmly braced ladder equipped with rubber safety feet and wear rubber-soled shoes. Stay on the ladder as much as possible.
5. In addition to looking bad, algae, moss and mildew can trap moisture and shorten the life of your roof. Soaking the affected area with a diluted chlorine bleach solution, then pressure washing can be effective in removing these damaging growths. To prevent shingle damage it is recommend using a pressure washing contractor that specializes in this type of removal.
6. Clear off all debris (leaves, branches, etc.) from your roof.
7. After heavy storms, check the attic for water stains and weak shingles.
8. To avoid clogged drains, clean out your gutters and install gutter guards.
9. Make sure that all gutter joints are properly sealed.
10. If you have asphalt shingles, they should be replaced when the mineral granules along the top surface disappear.
11. When you start to see black felt, call your local professional and get the shingles replaced.
12. Check for holes in your gutters. If you install an antenna on your roof, make sure to seal any holes you may have made.

ADDITIONAL TIPS:

• Know your Guarantee! Familiarize yourself with what is and is not covered under both your Workmanship Guarantee and your Product Manufacturers Warranty.
• Never paint shingles. This will most certainly decrease the life of your roof. If your roofing material is starting to look worse than desired, it may be time to get a new roof.
• Never allow unqualified personnel to perform Roof repairs. This also includes the installation of any antennas or other roof equipment.
• Keep roof traffic to a minimum. Only walk on your roof if absolutely necessary. This is especially important if temperatures are below freezing.
• Have professional inspections. If you roof is more than 10 – 15 years old, call us or another professional contractor to inspect and provide maintenance (caulking etc.) to your roof every two to three years. For a minimal cost, you can catch leaks before they happen. Also, if you call us just before your five year guarantee is up – we would be happy to stop by and look things over for free.
• Downspouts: Down spouts should not be discharged onto the roof surface. To prevent premature wear, downspouts should be extended to the eaves-troughs of the lower roof.
Prevent minor problems from becoming major repairs by inspecting your roof in the late fall and early spring. Using binoculars will give you a good view of the roof while keeping traffic on the roof to a minimum. Look for loose shingles or shakes, or, if you have a tile or slate roof, cracked or missing tile. On shingle roofs, look for curling, fraying and tears at the edges.

Causes of Roof Leaks

Do you have a home? Then you must have a roof. Even if you live in a cave, there is something overhead that keeps the rain and snow from landing directly on you. Nothing revolutionary here, but if you do not understand the construction of your own roof, then you may not understand how to spot roof leaks when its integrity has been breached.
Roof leaks are caused by several factors. Usually, it is not one of these things alone that causes leakage, but a number of these combining to break down the protective covering over the building. These factors or conditions are as follows:

 Poor Roof Construction
 Normal Aging and Weathering
 Settling of the Building
 Vibrations
 Mechanical Damage

Liquid EPDM, Roof Coatings, Liquid Roof

Roof Designs also affect Roofing Problems

When you start to consider different roof designs, the most obvious thing most people look at is the shape and style of the design. Does it match the shape and style of the house? Will it fit with the general style of the neighborhood? These are both very important considerations, but there are other factors to consider as well. Roof design has a huge impact on how a house looks, but it also has a huge impact on how much a house costs and what kind of maintenance will be needed over the life of the roof.

Roof designs that are simple and have few intersecting surfaces are the easiest to install and are perfect for houses with a simple design. They are the least expensive to build and require the simplest maintenance over the long run. Gutters are easier to install and maintain on simple roof designs and there are few clog points, valleys, and other spots that need to be cleaned and maintained to prevent leaks. A simple style of roof is extremely functional and practical. The street appeal of your home will be strong if the roof is in good repair and the rest of the house is neat, tidy, and has attractive landscaping.

Roof Designs

A roof design that is more complex is more expensive to build and requires more expertise to install. It adds tremendously to the attractiveness of the home, though, as well as to the amount of maintenance and other work that is required. For instance, a complex roof with many corners, turns, and different lengths requires custom gutters to ensure proper drainage. You will need to clean those gutters regularly to prevent clogs. The many valleys and connecting points of the roof surface will require regular maintenance to make sure they stay water tight.

Complex roof designs do add a lot to the value and overall appearance of your home which will increase it's street appeal. When you think about roof designs for your home, remember to take into account shape, style, cost, and long term maintenance needs.

To Check out Roof Repair Solutions follow the links below;

EPDM

EPDM
Roof Repair
Roof Coatings

What happens if we ignore roof leaks for some time?

Once a flat roof starts leaking, the inside damages will span from stained ceilings in the best case scenario to thousands of dollars in damages. Falling sheet-rock, electrical system damages, popping hardwoods and destroyed carpets, damaged furniture and home goods; these are only some of the outcomes of those leaks. Patching these leaky roofs may seem like the best solution, and the cheapest way out, but in reality, it usually proves to be the worst solution. Consider the following: the cost of patching the roof + fixing whatever damages the leak caused to the interior. Then, in 3-9 months, depending on the type of roof covering and quality of the patch work (which by the way, no contractor will ever warranty or uphold), your roof starts leaking again - maybe in the same place, maybe in a different one, but the process is irreversible. Patch is only a temporary fix and usually won't last, the roof will keep on leaking, and every time you patch it, you through away your money.

Majority of flat roof systems were not 'designed' with repairs in mind - best you could do to repair a flat roof was to pour some tar on the leaky spot. In fact, tar was pretty much the only feasible option. Unfortunately, after a short period of time you had to fix it again, as tar would dry up, crack and let the water in. New leaks would form elsewhere. So it was a constant repair, until a new leak begins and more money is spent. Such repairs are a perfect example of sunk costs, which cannot be recovered, and the fix lasts only a short period of time. After a series of such repairs, the owner would get sick & tired of it, and get a 'new' roof. Maybe a different type of flat roof, which unfortunately had the same inherited problems as the old one, but carried a different name and was made of different materials. Seems like a very sad situation for somebody with such a roof, doesn't it?

Many people are faced with a choice to either continue this cycle for the lack of other options, or to build a pitched frame roof with asphalt shingles on top of their flat roof and be done with it. However there are two problems involved here. First one - such an 'upgrade' is very costly and you would still have to re-shingle your roof every 12 to 15 years. The second one is more complex. While it might be pretty straight-forward process if you have a small, rectangular house, that is not always the case. Many houses have odd shapes, multiple levels and mixed pitched and flat roofs. Now, if you have a 200' x 100' factory, that task becomes extremely difficult to implement, and I will not even try to guess the costs involved.

Roof Leaks, Roof Repair, Roof Coatings, Liquid Roof

Extend Your Roof Life

When last time you have inspected your roof? Now what is that…oh no roof leakage! But it is important not to panic and to realize the roof leaks can be repaired, often with low expenses and minimal time commitment. All you need to do is to follow some very simple roof leak troubleshooting guidelines.

The first step is to control the interior damage as soon as possible i.e. cover your furniture with a plastic sheet if it cannot be moved from its place and relocate electronic equipment, such as TVs and computers immediately.

Then try to discover the source of the leak. Some very common places for roofs to leak are chimneys, wall step flashings, skylights, fields of shingles, plumbing vent flashings, low spots in the roof, ice dams and missing shingles. Clogged or improperly installed gutters also lead to roof leaks which will cause water to overflow over the back and leak along the inside walls and inside the home.

After the identification of the roof leak source comes the repairing phase. If the source of the leak turns out to be as simple as a missing block of shingles due to a recent windstorm, the solution may be as simple as replacing those missing shingles else a proper roofing professional is needed to be consulted for the leak repair.

Even when the leaks are not occurring, instead of waiting for the leakage to occur and then doing the repair work, inspect the roof from time to time to prevent leaks and damage. The ideal time to go for the roof inspection is spring because of its fair weather and also due to the fact that it immediately precedes winter, which is often troublesome for many roofs. It is also a good idea to have the roof inspected after a heavy rain or heavy snow, and after serious weather phenomena such as hail storms or hurricanes. It is also important that gutters be properly cleaned in order to prevent a buildup of rainwater, ice or other debris that may lead to added weight and damage. By performing such preventive techniques, you can make your home a safe place for yourself and your family with no fear of roof leakage.
  For further details on roof leaks and roof repairing follow the links below;

Roof Leaks

Roof Repair

Liquid Rubber Roof Repair

Liquid Roof Repair

Leaking Roof

As the sky turns black, you suddenly have a sinking feeling in your stomach, the roof repair hasn’t been done yet and now it’s going to rain cats and dogs. You’ve been putting it off for weeks and now, it’s too late. All you can do now is sit and cross your fingers.

In most instances, a storm or weather event causes roof leaks and roof damage. However, there are some roofs that are just old and may need to be replaced entirely. And many times when the roof is in need of repair, so is more of the home. Therefore, you may need a building inspection. Because most roofing companies do not specialize in mold and mildew damage, electrical wiring problems, and drywall issues; all associated with roof damage; your best bet is to hire an outside building inspector.

Most roof leaks are caused by improper installations and defective flashings. Roof leaks can occur at just about any part of your roof, especially near the chimney, step, apron, pipes, and points at which two roofs meet. Roof leaks can also occur when your roof shingles are installed improperly or when gutters don’t drain well.

Roof leaks may also occur due to: A low spot on the roof where water collects
Debris such as leaves and branches where water collects, Ice or snow where water collects and melts

Missing shingles on the roof

If a leak is recognized, clear the area of any home belongings, for instance electronic equipment furniture, etc. Place a bucket to collect the water for the time being. Once you can clearly see where the water is dripping from the ceiling, take a ladder and look at the roof in that area. You might easily see a part of the roof that has a broken shingle; you might also see debris, loose flashings, etc.

Once you solve the cause of the leak, you will be able to figure out the proper way to fix it. If you are not handy, then your best bet is to forgo fixing the roof yourself and contact a professional. It should be noted that you shouldn't try to fix your roof in a thunderstorm due to the threat of being struck by lighting or being pushed off the roof by a strong gust of wind.
Metal Flashing Roof Repair
Metal flashings are another common item that can cause a roof leak. Metal flashings are used around plumbing pipes, flue pipes, attic vents, skylights, etc. Flashings can come loose from time to time, so a good way to prevent a roof leak is to check them seasonally and tighten any flashings that have loosened. Every flashing should have a proper tight and continuous seal otherwise it can be the cause of a roof leak.

Metal flashings can be fixed simply with roofing tar, silicone or rubber sealants. Before applying these items, make sure that the area is dry and clean. Any flashing that is cracked, broken or dented should be replaced even if it has not developed a leak yet.

When replacing damaged metal flashing keep in mind that the flashing should always be placed over the shingle or shake. Once again, if the problem that is causing a leak is difficult to reach or too difficult a job for a novice.

Leaks can also come from the ceiling, but be caused by plumbing pipes or a leaky window in the attic. Before jumping to conclusions regarding the source of the leak, do a detailed search to figure out where the water is coming from.

Once you're done repairing the roof, you may have to replace parts of your interior that may have been damaged by water. In certain cases, new ceiling paint can hide damage, however if the ceiling tiles, walls or other items have been damaged with water significantly, it is extremely prudent to replace the damaged area due to the possibility of mold and mildew growth.

By stopping and fixing a leak early on, you can prevent much more damage and save lots of money in the process.

For Further Details please visit:

EPDM Coatings

Liquid Roof For Roof Leaks

Roof Coatings for Leaking Roof

Roof Leaks Repair Procedures

There are too many different types of roofing membranes to tailor emergency repair procedures for each. However, if literature cannot be located and/or if procedures are not detailed for emergency repairs, the following guidelines are suggested:

Protect the interior: Control the spread of water in the interior by collecting the water in containers or by using plastic sheeting to protect the building contents.

Remove excess water from the roof: Check roof drains and scuppers to be certain that they are open and functional. A frequent cause of roof leakage and roof collapse is excessive ponding on the roof surface due to clogged drains and/or scuppers.

Caution should be exercised when clearing debris from drains. Significant suction forces can be created by draining water, which can suck tools, hands, or arms placed within these vortices quickly into the drain.

Locate the source of a leak: In attempting to determine the source of a leak, locate the point on the roof surface above the area of leakage in the building interior. From this point, first check the condition of rooftop mechanical equipment, then check all flashings at terminations and penetrations. Second, if the system is ballasted remove ballast from the immediate leak area, then check the membrane surface for cuts, splits, or punctures. Finally, check the seams (laps) in the roofing membrane.

Perform emergency repairs: Once the source of a leak is located, the materials and procedures which will cause the least amount of damage to the roofing membrane should be chosen. Please refer to the following list of suggestions to perform emergency repairs by roofing system type.

For Details on Roof Repair please visit: Roof Leaks Repair

Roof Leaks Identification

Step 1:
The first and perhaps most obvious place to look for a roof leak is directly above the leak in a ceiling or exterior wall. Use a flashlight to inspect the attic floor over the leak while it's raining. Look for standing water, water stains, mold, wet insulation or other exposed insulation.
Step2:
Examine the underside of the roof for wetness or mold around points of penetration (plumbing vents, chimneys), wherever different roof planes intersect (valleys) and near dormers. These symptoms indicate holes in the flashing or faulty flashing installation.
Step3:
A leak away from such locations suggests a problem in the roofing material. Keep in mind that water may travel sideways before passing through a joint in the roof sheathing, and may travel in a horizontal joint before falling on the floor or ceiling.
Step4:
Take measurements from points inside that you can also locate from outside. Measure down from a ridge and horizontally from the center of a valley or sidewall; or measure distances from a chimney or other point of penetration.
Step5:
If your ceiling is attached to roof rafters, as would be the case for a cathedral ceiling, all you can do from inside is take the measurements that will help you locate the leak externally, and attempt to control the damage internally.

For further details: Roof Leaks Repair
